The area was originally used for farming. Crops that were multiplied in the area were arrowroot, maize, sugar, potatoes and cotton. Urban development commenced in 1900s-1910s: a tennis club was established in 1909, and a bowling club was opened in 1912. The Ipswich Road tram was extended to Yeronga Park in 1915.

It caters services such as bakeries, cafes, liquor shops, clinics, bicycle shops, restaurants, fruit and vegetable stores, pharmacy, dentist, newsagent, boutiques, hair dresser and a fuel with a convenience store. Near the riverside lies a waste water treatment plant.
