Suburb Profile

Pool builders Salisbury, Brisbane

Salisbury is one of the suburbs in the City of Brisbane. It is located 6 miles south of Central Brisbane. As of 2016, there are around 6,200 residents living in Salisbury.

The locality was named Salisbury after the politician named William Coote, who also lived in the area. It was chosen by the railway department when the South Coast railway Line was established in 1885.

The Toohey Mountain and Toohey Mountain Reserve lies on the northeast boundary of the area. Boolarong Press has its base within the suburb.

Until after the World War II, the suburb stayed rural and because of its remoteness, ammunition factories were established in the area, which is now the Evans Road. In 1941, the tram line from the city to Moorooka was extended to Evans Road to service the factories.

In October 1943, the production of arms at Rocklea Factory was stopped and the place was re-occupied by the Department of Aircraft Production.

In the present time, Salisbury is now a developed residential and industrial area. It features Toohey Mountain, Toohey Forest, Brisbane Christian College, SkillsTech Australia and a number of schools, local shops and any other facilities.
