7.5 miles southeast of Brisbane central business district, home to 4,000 people is the rural/residential suburb of Belmont.

According to the 2011 Australian census, Belmont had a population of 4,594 people living in the area. The suburb's population was comprised with 51.6% female and 48.4% male. Belmont's median age at that time was 37, the same as the national median. 72.7% of the suburb's population was made up of people born in the country.

The name Belmont was given by August Charles Frederick Bernecker.

During the early times, local indigenous people camped within the creeks and hills of Belmont and mineral springs were a popular camping spot for them.

Andrew Petrie, a pioneer, said that fine timber existed in the area as one of Belmont's early industries. During the early 1850s, Hoop Pine brought timber cutters to the area. Between 1860s and 70s, the rich soils from the cleared land used to grow sugar canes. The sugarcane production then decreased in southern Queensland and farmers started to invest in bananas, pineapples and small crops.
