Located approximately 12 miles from Brisbane central business district, is the suburb of Runcorn. The areas that surround Runcorn are Sunnybank, Eight Mile Plains, Kuraby, Karawatha, Stretton, Calamvale and Sunnybank Hills.

The suburb of Runcorn has a diverse range of nationalities. As of 2011, the suburb had a population of more than 14,000 individuals living in the area. The population's median age was 31 years, 6 years lower compared to the Australian median of 37. 45.4% of the population was comprised of individuals who were born in Australia and half of the Runcorn population consisted of people who use the English language as they communicate at home.

The Jagera people inhabited most of the area south of the Brisbane River.

In 1868, the first settlers in the area were the Williams family. Decade later, it was followed by Rev. J. McLaren. Aside from the two, other early settlers include Mr. Story and Mrs. Hill.

The Runcorn Bone Mill was established by Messrs Main, Clazy and Smith in 1886. During this time, the local land was mainly used for farming. Cotton was grown and caused growth of various small crops.

The Runcorn Provisional School was opened in 1901, and changed its name to Runcorn State School in 1909.
