Fairfield is home to more than 2,000 people. It is a residential suburb located 3.1 mi, (approx. 5 kilometres) south of the Brisbane central business district on the Brisbane River. This suburb occupies an area of 1.2 km. sq.

The suburb was named after a property settled by William Douglas Grimes. A part of the property was composed of lagoons and wetlands. It is also used for the production of dairy.

According to the 2011 Australian census, the population of Fairfield which is 2,554 was composed of 50.2% female and 49.8% male. The median age was 31 years, 6 years lower compared to the national median of 37. 69.2% of the population tally was individuals born in Australia.

In 1865, the Grimes family opened a Baptist church in the area. The Fairfield library was established in 1988 and was renovated in 2011.

Fairfield's housing developments started during the early 1930s.

One of the attractions in the suburb is the Skate Park for the young people. The suburb also has its own shopping centre.
