A quick 14-kilometre drive in the southeast direction from the City of Brisbane and you'll reach the outer suburb of Chandler. Home to more than 1,400, Chandler is the easternmost part of Brisbane. The area is a semi-rural suburb, inhabited by people in acres of residential properties peppered with bushlands here and there. Chandler is considered a semi-rural suburb because of its proximity to the commercial spots in the suburbs of Carindale and Capalaba, and because it houses the Sleeman Centre, a large sports and entertainment hub.

The suburb got its name after Sir John Beals Chandler, a former Lord Mayor in Brisbane. Before gaining its current population, Chandler consisted of various bushlands located throughout the area. The lack of population, and its relative proximity to more commercially-developed areas gave developers the idea to construct the Sleeman Centre in Chandler for the 1982 Commonwealth Games.

The Sleeman Centre was the only significant facility in Chandler until Capalaba West got incorporated into Chandler in 2010. The incorporation added various small commercial areas in the suburb including the Capalaba Produce Village. Since then, the suburb of Chandler continued to thrive until it became the Chandler we know today.

Amidst all the development in the suburb, the Sleeman Centre remains one of the most notable structures in the suburb. Famous for housing the 1982 Commonwealth Games, and the 2001 Goodwill Games, the Sleeman Centre is also the location for the Commonwealth Games in 2018. Complete with an auditorium, accomodation, and gardens, the Sleeman Centre is Chandler's home for various sporting events from BMX Supercross, Dry Diving, Gymnastics, and Weightlifting to name a few.
