Take a ten-kilometre drive from Brisbane's CBD, and you'll get to the suburb that is located around the suburbs of Belmont, Carina, Carina Heights, Mackenzie, Mansfield, Mount Gravatt East, and Tingalpa. It's the suburb that is home to more than 15,500 people, the suburb of Carindale.

The name Carindale was an amalgam of the nearby suburb of Carina, and added the term dale which means valley. An estate built where the suburb now stands back in 1976 was called Carindale. The area was separated from Belmont in 1980, and it adopted the name of the estate and used it as the name of the suburb itself.

Back in the 1850s, the Europeans used the area of Carindale primarily to get timber, and to establish agricultural farms. From that point in time, Carindale saw more growth. A nursing home opened its doors in the suburb back in 1973, and as developers saw the area as the location of the next shopping centre in 1978, the economic activity in Carindale became more vibrant, all before the suburb was named Carindale in 1980.

Carindale is home to a large Westfield shopping centre, one of the largest ever built. This shopping complex houses over 400 stores with major tenants like Myer, David Jones, Target, and Big W. There are also supermarkets inside this large facility with the likes of Coles, Woolworths and Aldi.
