Cannon Hill is located just 5 kilometres east of Brisbane's Central Business District and shares fronts with neighbouring suburbs of Murrarie, Morningside, Carina and Tingalpa. First established in 1867, this east Brisbane suburb is sprawling with a mix of residential, light industrial retail zones.

Regarding its native roots, Cannon Hill was once inhabited predominantly by Indigenous Australians belonging to the Murri tribe. Within time, however, this community group was later dispersed by the Native Police and the Brisbane Mountain Police in November 1861.

For those that are travelling from Brisbane and on the way to Brisbane's bayside region, Cannon Hill is a suburb frequently travelled through. Wynnum Road is Cannon Hill's busiest thoroughfare and where Wynnum Road meets Creek Road, is one of the areas's busiest sections. At this intersection, one would be able to locate Cannon Hill's predominant shopping district - Cannon Hill Central Shopping Centre, as well as Hungry Jacks, Red Rooster and BP.

According to the nationwide Census taken in 2011, Cannon Hill hosted a population of 5,533 residents with the median age at 34 years old. Other than the Australian portion of its demographic, Cannon Hill is also called home for a large New Zealand community and English Community.

For an interesting piece of trivia, Cannon Hill's name is derived most probably from the name given to Cannon Hill House - a large and established home that once was located along Wynnum Road. It was a name provided by Thornhill Weedon who named the house as such thanks to 2 fallen trees that had made the shape that resembled cannons.
