A quick seven-kilometre drive east from Brisbane's Central Business District is the suburb of Carina, home to more than 11,000 people.

Located just around the suburbs of Carindale, Carina Heights, Cannon Hill, and Camp Hill, Carina is primarily a residential suburb, with some amenities built around for its people's enjoyment. Carina is also the home of the Tigers Rugby League Football Club.

The suburb of Carina was named after Ebenezer Thorne's daughter, Kate Carina. Thorne is a landowner who bought the area, and built his estate near Creek Road back in the 1850s. The area where Carina stands know was home to the Murris, particularly the Jagera people. After being a farming and timber land in the 1850s, Carina slowly grew into a settlement, but development in the area was held back during the Second World War. After the war, housing properties began popping up in various areas in Carina, causing the population to increase dramatically in the 1950s and 1960s.

Life in Carina literally has its ups and downs, from the hilly parts of the suburbs in Seven Hills near Camp Hill, the road heads down to the floodplain to the east and then it goes flat in Bulimba Creek. There are a lot of places where cyclists could just go for a quick stroll from the Bulimba Creek Cycleway on the eastern parts of the suburb, to the more challenging hilly western part of Carina.

Things may get busy in Carina, but that's just a good sign of growth, and economic activity. Homes in Carina are built with pride, and kept warm by the love families have for each other.
